Common questions.

It is completely normal to have questions or feel uncertain about what to expect. These answers can help make the process clearer.

Do you offer virtual counselling?

Yes. Virtual sessions are available through a secure platform for clients who prefer the flexibility and comfort of meeting online.

Who do you work with?

Soman provides counselling for teens ages 13 and older, young adults, adults and couples.

What concerns do you support?

Support is available for anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, emotional regulation, grief and loss, relationship concerns, self-esteem, life transitions, women’s mental health, postpartum experiences, anger management and personal growth.

Are counselling sessions confidential?

Yes. Sessions are confidential and handled according to professional ethical standards and legal requirements. Confidentiality and its limits will be reviewed during your first session.

What happens during the first session?

The first session is an opportunity to discuss what brings you to counselling, explore your goals and learn more about your experiences.

Together, you and Soman will identify what support may be most helpful and begin creating a plan that feels comfortable and meaningful.

How long are counselling sessions?

Standard appointments are booked for 60 minutes. Approximately 50 minutes are dedicated to the counselling session, with the remaining time reserved for clinical notes and documentation. Extended sessions are also available.

How often should I attend counselling?

Frequency depends on your needs, goals and circumstances. Some clients benefit from weekly appointments, while others prefer a different schedule. This can be decided collaboratively.

Do I need to know what I want to talk about?

No. You do not need to have everything figured out before beginning. Part of counselling is creating space to explore your experiences and identify what support would be meaningful.

Can parents attend their teen’s sessions?

Parent or caregiver involvement may be included when appropriate, while still respecting the importance of creating a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship with the teen.

The level of involvement can be discussed during the initial consultation.

Do you begin EMDR in the first session?

No. Trauma-informed counselling begins by developing safety, trust and understanding. Before beginning EMDR or deeper trauma-focused work, time is spent exploring your goals, understanding your experiences and ensuring that you feel prepared and comfortable.
